Good news everyone! Urban Zone is holding two competitions this winter. The Winter Fun Cup will be dedicated to fun, chill and relaxed games and the teams will be able to choose the mode they want to play. The Winter Pro Cup will be dedicated to serious and try harder players, the teams will only be able to choose the same map once, like in league div1.

Urban Terror players!

Vulnerabilities found

Several vulnerabilities have been detected within the game engine and may be used by malicious entities to alter your game experience. We've made the necessary fixes and it is highly recommended to update your game clients as soon as possible.

How to update?

There are two ways to update your game client:

Launch the UrTUpdater which is located in your Urban Terror game folder, it will automatically download and update the necessary files
Manually download the files from here and put them in your Urban Terror game folder
Information: Game servers are not affected by those vulnerabilities, but it is also recommended to update your servers with the new binaries.

It's been a long time since the Urban Terror community has put together a proper jump related event. To remedy that, Sachka​ and Hugo​ are organizing the Battle Jump competition, hosted by Urban Zone, and everybody from beginner to skilled jumper is welcome to participate.

​There will be three different divisions in which people with the same skill level compete against each other, on maps with matching complexity and difficulty level. The goal is to be the fastest in your bracket to finish the maps.

The tournament will span several weeks and multiple maps will be played in each division. To participate, it is necessary that you are using an Urban Terror account​ and that you are registered on the Urban​ ​Zone​ website.

For this first edition of the Battle​ ​Jump​ Tournament​, the organizers offer 50 €​ to the winner of each division. In the next few days you will be able to access the​ ​rules​ as well as the official list​ ​of​ maps​ that will be played.

WolfETPlayer has released Beta 1.0 of his "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" map called "Siwa Oasis - Zombified". As the name implies, the map is an original map from Wolf ET that was ported to the zombie gameplay mode of COD: BO3.





You will need Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in order to play this map. Currently, it's not possible for the map to be released as a standalone map.

Urban Zone is hosting a new KNOCKOUT event on Sunday, May 7th at 15:00 CET. The event will be streamed on twitch.tv/urbanzone and the reigning champion, deCrimzon` will be defending his belt from 2016 (video).

Signups will be done through the Urban Zone website, this news post has all the details. The first 15 to reply on Wednesday, April 26th at 12:00 CEST to it will get a spot. But if you want to "skip the queue" you can subscribe to Urban Zone's twitch channel here. Aside from supporting future streams you'll also reserve a spot in the KNOCKOUT tournament! If you aren’t one of the lucky fifteen, don't get discouraged and sign up anyway – some people always drop out and you can take up their place.

It's been a long time since we announced this update but, with all our efforts being directed to Resurgence, it took us some time and dedication to leave the fancy Unreal Engine 4 development environment to push one of the last updates of the ioQuake editions of Urban Terror.

We hope that you will enjoy this small 2017 update in which we tried to fix the most important bugs known in 4.3 along with a few enhancements for the new GunGame and InstaGib modes.

New Urban Terror tutorials down the road

Before coming up with our end of year greetings, we have some last minute candy to share with you.

The old folks hanging around for some years can remember The Daily Nade webmagazine. Providing a global coverage of the games' news, it was also offering on a regular basis some tips and tricks for its players.

Some of you might also have heard about rapid`, a young German player known in Urban Terror's top eSports spheres for playing with Glory and de Team Germany. In the Daily Nade's spirit, he decided to dive into the big ocean of gaming tutorials and delivers us today his very first piece.

For this number one episode, the focus will be the game's most popular sidearm: the Desert Eagle.

It has been 10 months now since frTeam France won for the 5th time the prestigious NationsCup, positioning themselves 2nd behind ptTeam Portugal in the all time Nations' Rankings.

The very first NationsCup on urt Urban Terror 4.3 calls for us and can't wait for the action to kick off! Those of you who would like to live again last year's matches can head straight away to the Urban Zone YouTube channel, sit comfortably in your chair and just listen to Seven, Jehar, Ikslorin and Maku's voice.

December 04 - Captain applications launched
December 18 - End of Captain applications / Start of the captain's vote stage
January 01 - End of Voting stage, Captains announcement

January 10 - Start of the first match week

Captain Votes

We will be going through the captain designation process in the UrbanZone forums in a few days. Note that players are still in time and free to apply to become the captain of their country, but competition experience is, of course, expected. The NC staff is also looking for people ready to help them in the organization (GTV cameraman, newswriter, etc). So please step up if you want to help!

If you want to be the captain of your nation or region send your written application by mail to nationscup@urban-zone.org by midnight of December 18th. Add the following elements to the application: UrT auth, country, age, clan, and other relevant information which may help voters decide whether you're the right person to be their nation's captain.

Urban Terror players!

Thanks to your incredible feedback after the 4.3 release, we have identified and fixed the FPS drops issues which were affecting a vast number of players.

We promptly decided to release a 4.3.1 HotFix to address them. This release also includes some engine optimizations for the Windows users as well as the fix for Mac OSX 10.12 Sierra users who couldn't launch the game.

We have an issue with servers that seem to lag after being online for a little while. This issue has been seen previously, and even though i can't confirm at this time, I think that server admins should try the 32 bit binaries.

The 32Bit Server Binaries are located in the .zip download.

FrozenSand is delighted to announce the release of Urban Terror 4.3: 'Still Dying' !

This important update from 4.2 brings with it numerous changes and additions, based on internal testing and community suggestions. The 4.3 series will be the very last version on the Quake 3 engine, as we move our development focus to UE4 Urban Terror: Resurgence.



Before going over the big features this update offers, we want to thank the many community members who have done an incredible job in helping us out regarding the menus, engine, updater and maps. Namely: Iye, Kronik, Mr.Yeah, karnute, Clatoo, PapyRunny, MajkiFajki, Thomas Brierley, ryan-sg, Fenix, Mickael9, clearskies, t3slider, and last but not least, the JrandomNoob. We also would like to thank former QA testers for the two years of testing, the community members and 4.3 pre-releases testers for their feedback.
Information: This is an update of the Urban Terror 4 version on Quake 3's engine, and it is not to be confused with Urban Terror: Resurgence which will run on the Unreal Engine.

Modes

A brand new game type has found its way into Urban Terror - Gun Game. It challenges you to kill your opponents in a free-for-all style fight, using weapons dictated by the game. Each time you kill someone, you gain a level and switch to a new weapon. The first player to earn a knife kill (the highest level weapon), wins the game!

Instagib has been an all time favourite mode in Quake 3, and is finally available in Urban Terror! Watch a sadistic smile spread across your face, as you instantly kill players with a single bullet from the instagib-exclusive weapon: the TOD50. In this mode, stamina can be unlimited, booting can be done with the TOD in your hands, its bullets can ricochet on certain surfaces, and rumour has it, you could even kill multiple players with one bullet! Instagib is available in any gamemode (excluding jump and Gun Game).

Weapons

In Still Dying, we've revised the (long awaited) Groin & Butt hit location damages, as well as adjusted other damage values based on community suggestions. Additionally, we're proud to announce that the Benelli M4 Super 90, MAS FR-F1, FN Herstal P90 and .44 Magnum Revolver found their way into the the family of Urban Terror weapons. The Benelli will join the lonely SPAS in the shotguns category; the FRF1 will please the fastest and sharpest long range shooters; the P90 will serve as a secondary alternative, while the Magnum is a devastating but slow sidearm.

Maps

Some maps have received small updates, like Kingdom, and we are welcoming two new maps to the game: Mykonos and Paris. Feast your eyes on the teaser below, then check them out fully in game.

HUD & UI

We have made some adjustments to the HUD and user interface. Improvements have been made to the chat and console designs, better option settings, and an improved server browser. A brand new UI and menu is also almost complete, which you can look forward to in the 4.3.1 update.

UrTUpdater

Along with many other improvements, our Urban Terror Updater now provides full OS X support, statically linked builds, OS specific updates and a brand new UI with download options as well as an improved progress bar.

Five months ago Urban Zone held its first one-day 2vs2 tournament. It was a great success with the community pooling its resources and creating a €119,69 prize pool. To mark the release of Urban Terror 4.3 UZ are organizing the second edition of this tournament which can best be described as a one-day marathon session of Urban Terror.

To boost this edition's prize pool, frozensandFrozenSand generously donated €20 for the event, and will put in an extra €2 for every competing team. Several other devs and community members have donated considerable amounts, and the prize pool is about to reach the triple digits! Find additional details regarding the donator rewards on the Urban Zone website.

Signups are limited to 16 teams, they open on Wednesday 28th of September at 12:00 CEST.

Power-slide home, slip into a lush UrT hoodie, and start waiting. 4.3 is nearly here!

We can finally announce this fabled update launches Friday the 30th of September. Bringing with it new guns, new maps, gameplay improvements, improved console and admin functionality, and much more!

Join us all on September the 30th for a celebratory launch stream, casted by the great SevenofNine on UrT-TV or Twitch! The frozensand FS Dev Team will be discussing and demonstrating the new gameplay features, as well as answering viewer questions.

This release signifies the last major update to the Quake iteration of Urban Terror, and brings with it a small change to how we name our releases. From now on we will assign names to major releases, therefore 4.3 shall also be known as Urban Terror: Still Dying. In the same spirit, Urban Terror HD will now simply be called Urban Terror, with the first iteration being known as Urban Terror: Resurgence.

We're very excited to see you play this patch for the years to come, reel in new and old players to the community, and keep on fragging to Urban Terror: Resurgence and beyond! You can look forward to more detailed discussion and Still Dying feature rundowns over the coming days.

If you can't wait for 4.3, and want to help with final bug testing, download the Release Candidate 5 client here. You can also expect to see a prompt 4.3.1 patch. This will address any major issues identified post launch, as well as adding some extra goodies to keep you on your toes - including an updated UI!
